really depends. ive never spot fed any of my clams and ive had them as small as 2" and they've grown considerably since then.
if you do spot feed, dont squirt any food directly at the clam, you can clog his gills and he'll die. you either add something like DT's oyster eggs directly to the tank in front of a powerhead or pump and let it disperse throughout the tank, or you take the clam out and feed him in a bowl. take a bowl or cup, fill it with tank water and put the clam in. drop in a drop or two of whatever your feeding (again, not directly into his siphon) and leave him for like 30mins-1hour. you should see the water become clean, for him siphoning the food out of the water. then you can put him back in the tank.
