well, i have a couple of maxima clams and spiny oysters and wondered if it's possible that they breed in a tank setting? is this possible, and if so, what do i need to do to try it? or should i just let go of the dream?

another question--do clams and spiny oysters benefit a tank in any way besides good looks?

yes its possible but difficult. i wouldnt do it. when theyre mature enough (the tridacnid clams) you can stress them out by taking them out of the tank for a while and placing them back in, itll usually cause a chain reaction for them to spawn. next, you need to get the right type of zooxanthellae and time it just right and place it in the tank.
i think theres much more to it but its just a summary from some place i read it

Yeah, that wouldn't turn out very well.

Clams will reproduce, but you'd need a specialized setup to raise them. The tiny larva are going to be sucked out by filtration or eaten by other animals in your tank.

so in other words, it sounds like i'm not going to have a bunch of little clams in the tank one day. so does anybody know if clams and spiny oysters help clean the water, or is that only bay oysters that do that?
