Maybe "Burning" was'nt the right descriptive word! Mh owners

When you first hooked up Mh lighting the heat of the bulbs did'nt smell?
Maybe burning is'nt the best description but more a "NEW" smell like when a brand new engine gets started for the first time. Also, its about 6" inches from the plastic-center brace of the fish tank which my 150w 20k bulb is directly over, maybe I can put something over it. I will need to purchase a couple of fans, I am very suprised at how hot they get.
I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY NEW LIGHTS, ITS AN AQUA MEDIC 2-250W 10K WITH 1-150W 20K. IT MAKES THE TANK SO MUCH BETTER. I WILL GET PICS TOWMMOROW.

You should continue on your old thread.
But, it may be your ballist you smell. Could just be the coating they put on the windings. I thought of that on the other post but didn't write it, sorry.
It will go away, give it a few days. Hope this helps but i'm not there to "smell" it.

I just added MH's to my tank on Monday and I know kind of what you are talking about. My ballast is located in the next room over hidden in the cabinent along with my kalkwaser and other stuff. I smell the ballast, it kind if has that break in smell. I check it soo often I think it hates me...lol. But I just kind fo think it's like new brakes on a car. They have to break in. I may be wrong but that is my opinion.

I have 2x175 MH's about 6 inches over my plastic brace and it is no problem at all...
My PC's used to rest on the plastic brace and never had any problems with that either
