well after almost 2 months I added the play sand by mayson its finally doing its job! bubbles are coming out from under the sand :D. the tank looks great, no algae at all. All tests are perfect and my tank has never been so good. nitrate 0, nitrite 0, amonia 0, ph 8.2, copper 0, alk 2.2, phos 0. Just wanted to let everyone know that this sand is great!

MY sand bed is 4" deep. There silica in it, but says its dry heat treated to remove allergens bacteria free. power-screened to remove dust and fine silica. says great for aquariums to.This stuff doesent make a mess when you drop it in the water, it sinks write down to the bottom. I had no algae at all in the tank! I love this stuff lol! its mason play sand, pure white, I purchased it from rona in ontario

Play sand wouldnt contain anything else more than limestone and silica would it? I have a lot more inverts than fish, So copper CANNOT be in it.

If you research most ppl who study sandbed like ronshimek rob toonen will say sand if clean doesn't make much difference. its the grain size. Theres hundreds of links where there tanks that have had various sands for years and years to prove this. I still use aragonite but also have seen nice tanks with other sands. It's not that important just hype. Miracle mud is a landbase sand go figure =doesn't matter. there can be bad sand =dirty ect.. I would get your alk above 3+meg
