If you check the disease forum, you'll find the better treatment for ich would be either copper or hypo! Hypo would be a better choice, it should be done in a QT tank not in a display tank, same with copper. I feed mine garlic enhanced food like formula 2, it does the trick for me. BE sure to do it in QT tank cause these WILL kill inverts!!! :happyfish

This is from SeaChem's own web site..................We do not sell or market ParaGuard as invert safe because it would be impossible to test it with every available invert under every potential water parameter. We have had people use it with invertabrates with no problems, but we have also had people encounter problems. If you decide to use it we stress caution; dose at 1/4 to 1/2 dose and observe how your inverts and soft corals react. If they seem to tolerate the dosing, increase slowly up to no more than the prescribed dose as long as they are tolerating it. If you need to get rid of the ParaGuard™ quickly, just turn your skimmer back on.
IMO, dont use it with inverts. IMO best to do hypo in a HT.

Thanks so much for you help...don't want to lose my puffer, he's so sweet...even eats right out of my hand. Other fish aren't showing signs so I hope it gets caught in time.

Cap
my queen angel has been shaking and rubbng its face against objects., It doesnt have any visible parasites and is eating very well. do you think she has ich though? I only have a 15g qt and dont want to stress her more so i was thinkingof doing hypo to the main tank and add some paragaurd. I dont have any inverts and only 40lbs of lr..

You can but always run the risk of a medication killing benifical bacteria of other fish that may not be able to tolerate a paticular medicine. Leaveing a display tank fallow will allow the parisites to die out because there is no fish for them to pray on.
For a FO tank, I quess its up to the particular problem/desease and type of fish, inverts, ect. and a choice that the hobbiest must decide depending on the research and medication all so.

Personally, I'd look at hypo in a QT tank rather than copper or some bottle to do the job half assed.
While you are in QT with the fish, see if your LFS will loan you a sterlizer and run it for a few weeks in addition to keeping the tank empty of fish for 6 weeks.
If you have no fish in the display tank, the ich will die. I keep a UV running in all my tanks though as I feel this has been part of the reason I haven't had ich after experiencing it only once.
While I believe in the use of UVs some people don't. Splitting the DNA of the ich makes perfect sense to me. However, ScubaDoo and I debated over the use of a UV and made some valid points that one may want to consider before implementing the use of a UV.

i appreciate the advise but i have to many fish put them all in a 15g QT tank, especially the 6 inch queen. I gave her a dip in formalin and meth blue yesterday then lowered the sg in the tank to 1.018 and added some paraguard., today she is not shaking as much as yesterday and scratching verly little I going to bring the sg level down to 1.010 by tomorrow.

I'd go slower at reducing the SG.

ok , I met someone who is extremely knowledgeable in the marine bio field and he the queen had a different parasite, no ich. I gave her a FW dip as he recommende some whitish crcular looking things came of the fish . She has been doing great since the bath. She's als has not shivered or scratched since. I plan on dosing the tank with praziquantel for precuation in case the parasite is still in the tank.

Freshwater dips also work well and I recommend them as well.
However, ich has a six week lifecycle and your tank will still have ich in it unless you do hyposalinity.
Move any inverts to the QT tank and put your LR into a plastic tote with a heater and saltwater, and let the tank sit for six weeks. Without fish to host on, the existing ich in the tank hasd the chance to die.

Hi
I've also heard that you can use garlic oil, you let their food soak in it and then feed it to them. Garlic is a natural way and it doesn't hurt any animals in the tank. You can squeeze some of the juice out of a clove or they have some for sell on this site.
