I have a nano, If i was to keep it at 78 Degrease ferinhite, and a salinity of .24, And i was mesuring with a hydrometer, what would i want it to read. Im asking this because i do know that temperature can change the reading of the hydrometer. So at 1.024 and temperature of 78, what would i need it to read

If it is that critical to you buy a refractometer. If not make it read .024 or .025. I run my stuff at 1.026 or 35-36ppt.

The way my LFS explained it (which I don't know if it is really right or not, but, it is what I was told) that id there are not directions for calibrating it is not necessary, and can be read as it shows. I use two different hydrometers. THat is because I want to check until I can get a hydrometer. I have more important things to buy like live rock and sand

We were advised by our lfs to buy a refractormeter. We now have 2 of them. Much more accurate than a hydrometer. We couldn't believe how much our salinity was off when we compared the 2. What we use to take care of our tanks and fish and water, is as important, if not more so, than the livestock we add in the tanks. IMO, of course.

Once you get a hang of it pretty easy to use as well.

Yup a refractometer is the way to go, I had 2 different hydrometers and 1 read 1.023 and the other read 1.025. Took my water to the LFS and it was 1.029 with a refrac.

In my experience, a $40 refractometer saves much hassle and stress compared with 2 different type hydros at 8-10 bucks each. You'll feel better, I sure did.

I found mine online for around $40 inc shipping, it was about the cheapest I found considering all my LFS were 50+. Hope it helps!

I'd hate to sound like an idiot, but aren't all refractometers all kind of portable?Or are some not? I am so confused now....
