Would a 20 gallon long tank with a 175 hanging fixture produce heat issues. This would be for a frag tank. Space is an issue.I am trying to find the smallest tank without having heat issues because of the MH.I am using MH because i will be propogating many color morphs of zoo's and dont want thme to lose color under pc's and i am getting a great deal on the MH unit.
what about a 15 gallon?
thanks

i have a 20l with a 250 de pendant . i use 1 clip on fan blowing over the surface of the water to keep it cool, and my tank stays at 80. i do have the pendant about 12" off the surface of the water so it lights the whole tank. i live in ct so heat is not a problem now, i would think the only way heat would be a issue is if you live in a place where it is like 90 degrees all year round.

I upgraded to two 250 watt 14000k HQI pendants hanging 11" over my 72 gal bow. The temp goes up 1 degree a day when they're on. I haven't seen a significant increase (except on my electricity bill

would a 175 watt mh hanging over plastic melt it? (8 inches off of water)
the plastic i am talking about are those tubs you keep in your garage with the rope handles where basketballs and toys go in.

I was worried about the heat of the MH bulbs so I bought a Coralife fixture with HQI bulbs. They are crazy bright and don't really raise my temp at all. Here's a pic of the light on my tank.
