metal halide questions

my question is mainly about ballasts.
i am setting up a 90 reef and may need to upgrade to metal halides. if i do, i will be doing a DIY project. my question is, say i run 2 100 watt MH bulbs. do i have to get two seperate ballasts each for 100 watts? or can i just get say a 250 watt ballast for both?

you can get a dual ballast that will run 2 bulbs. what are you planing on keeping in the tank? 2 100 watters doesnt seem like very much light for a 90 gallon tank i have 250 watts on a 36 gallon.

oh ok good lol a dual ballast is a little more expensive but defently way cheeper than buying 2 seprate ones

say there is a 400 watt dual ballast for sale. is that implying that its 400 watts total or 400 watts for each bulb?

400 watts for each bulb. IIRC they do not make 400/2=200 watt bulbs only 70,150,250,400 and higher
