Some say it can but from my personal experience when I had my 120 with 2 400 watt MH's everything including the mushroom corals seemed to do better than when they were in my 55 gallon with 4 110 VHO's.

I would say no, not mh in particular but is is possible to have too much light. It depends on the corals you want to keep. Dont forget mh come in wattage ranging from 70-500 so there is a lot of variablity in output.

I agree, some softies and LPS don't like that much like. Some tend to not look as good. Since the light is so strong they don't need to expand out as much, hence they don't look as good.

I burned an Acro under my VHO's it all depends on how you acclimate the coral to the new lights.
