hello,

well this might seem like a silly question but i must ask, what metals if any would be ok for the fish, the iron would rust and so on, i don't mind the rust but will the fish mind it? and if not iron how about copper, silver, and so on

I have to ask. Why would you ask what metals are ok. I would not even thing of putting anything into my tank that would rust or has some sort of chemical coating on it. DEF NOT COPPER!!!! I would say that probably the ONLY safe metal would be STAINLESS STEEL!

Are you talking about metal decorations or what? The only metals I would ever use would be titanium or aircraft quality stainless steel; and then only for a thin grounding probe. There are many tank additives designed to de-toxify metals found in tap water; that shows how deadly they are.

Stay away from putting any metal in your tank unless it has been coated with a fish safe coating . You do not want metal particles in your tank .

yeah only use coated objects and then some of those arent good to put in because they are designed for FW and SW will eat away at it. some metals like copper mentioned above is deadly to inverts and can get cought into the silicone seams and leach back out later even after metal is gone. Some fish are also sensitive to metals I would put anything but stainless steal that is designed to go into saltwater useage.
