I'm being offered a mexican dragon eel, about 18 inches long, wondering if it would be a good addition to my 100g tank? Currently have p. puffer, v. lionfish, goldentail eel, two damsels, and a panther grouper that's going to LFS in a couple of weeks (getting big). Anyone forsee any problems?

It sounds good, although the damsels may be lunch.......do you forsee issues with the two eels getting along together?

Guy that i'm getting it from has 2 other eels and he says that the dragon is the most docile of the three. Can't catch damsels without tearing up my tank (tried it), best I can do is pray for them, lol.

From my reading, it sounds like that would be a great combo of fish but I have not personally kept any eels so let some others chime in here....

the only 2 fish i see you may have issues with are the puffer and the lion ..ells can be highly aggressive eaters i had issues in the past of my mex dragon(jeweled) atacking the lion during a feeding frenzie.. my mex dragon eel is aprox 2 ft long now( ive had her several yrs now) housed alone in a 90 gal... shes more aggressive than my 3 1/2 ft tess was

If you can cope with the bioload factor, I'd say you should be fine. Just whenever you do feeding, make sure to get to the eels first. I've got a Fimby and an SFE in my 125 and always make sure to get them the food first. For the past year no problems yet!!! The Damsels may or may not be lunch. It depends if the eel can catch them. I've had the same damsel in my aggressive for over a year now with a 9.5" Gulf Toadfish and both eels and to this day it still swims... It even bosses the eels around... Just my two cents.

Well i have the eel in my tank now and I figured the damsels wouldn't stand a chance but one is still swimming. The other one seems to have "dissapeared". Surprisingly, he gets along with everyone else.

Well both my damsels have gone missing but it was bound to happen i guess. Here's a crappy pic of him.
Awesome eel. Should do quite well with any fish too large to eat. Although they do get a bit frenzied when they smell food... watch your hands!!

I'm surprised to hear this about your jeweled moray. I had one for over 7 years with puffers and lions, and it was always a model citizen, aside from the occasional nip when it was looking for food. Awesome eel.

Do you have any pictures of your eel?
No, I haven't had mine for 8 or 9 years... Looked basically exactly like yours. Great eel... will live forever if you have the top covered well.

I had mine for years, Granted she was little when I got her but I had her with a lionfish and grouper and a bunch of triggers, Queen Clown Niger and Huma. I hand fed her first then I fed the eel. The only time I ever had a problem was when I put a dragon wrasse in there and upon letting it go the grouper ran it down to the eel cave and chomp it was the most expensive feeder fish i ever had LOL. I fed the tank 12 gold fish every day and I think the eel ate about 5 of them. Good luck with it mine actually liked to have its head stroked like a cat LOL.
