MH and VHO combo people.....

I have 3 250 watt Ushio bulbs and 2 160 watt actinic VHOs. How long do you think I should run the lights? How long do you run your lights?

depends on your tank? What you have in it etc.
I run my VHO's 8hrs and my MH 6hrs.
I am cutting down the times to 7 and 5 due to algae and a small cleanup crew though.

I am always adjusting my times because I love to watch the things in my tank. But generally I do the same as Dad does.

I have a 55 gal sps tank w 2 250w ushios & 2 - 110w VHO actenics and this is how I have mine timed:
9am - VHOs on
10:15 MHs on
9PM MHs off
10:15 VHOs off

i too have sps and soft corals. i run mine as follows.
vho 5:30pm-12:30
mh 6:30pm-11:30pm

I don't have VHO's, although a do have a Metal Halide & Power Compact combo.
4x 65wt Actinic 03 Power compacts- 2:00PM
2x 400wt 10,000k Ushio's- 3:00PM
2x 400wt 10,000k Ushio's OFF at- 11:00PM
4x 65wt Actinic 03 Power compacts OFF at- 12:00AM
