I posted this in the equipment section, I was thinking that I should have posted it here. I am running on my 40gal reef a 5500k mh and 55w actinic 6 hrs, and a 96w 10000k and actinic with a 55w actinic 8hrs. It seems that ever since I started running the mh I have been haveing a problem with red slime algee on my sand, I have checked for phosphates and it is zero nitrates are also zero as is ammonia and nitrites. I have read that others run 5500k mh, could this be the reason for the algee problem? Or should I be looking for something else? I was thinking of changeing to 10000k mh if that is the problem. Any help would help, thanks.

A 5500K is a pretty low kelvin light. I would atleast go with a 6500....and probably a 10K.
The new light probably caused a algae bloom, which given time will die out. How did you acclimate your tank to the new light?
