mh lighting

I was thinking about getting a mh unit but have a concern about melting plastic. There is a plastic support strip for the tank running right where the light would shine. Is there anything I can do to avoid melting it if I do go with the mh?

Do you mean the plastic support brace in the middle of the tank?If so run a small fan blowing across your light and reflector and you should be fine,or either add some pc fans in your canopy.

I have 2, 250wt MH bulbs over a 65gal tank with a center brace. It gets warm to the touch but not hot enough to melt. But, you should have fans if you have MHs in a canopy anyway.

if you are truly concerned about it melting, you could use two stainless steel rods, cut to fit, and put one on both ends of the tank then remove the center brace... thats what I had to do, worked fine..
