I read in a previous post but can seem to be able to verifying info. The previous info I found states: 70w DE = 150/175 mogul
150w DE = 250w mogul,250w DE = 400w mogul
This was from another board member and I am not doubting thier judgement but I like to always get a few opinions.
Also any drawbacks to using the DE setups.
Basically I am retrofitting my canopy from a 45gal to the new 120, so I am looking at adding a fair amount of light. I would like to use as little as power as i can but also dont wish to tramautize the animals.

I've used 250 watt DE's and 400 watt SE...I would say the info on the measured PAR at a certain range is very close, in a lot of cases the 250 DE's might put out more par then 400 watt SE's.

I have a mogul set-up. But I just purchased new Ice-Cap ballasts, and after these bulbs expire, I plan on changing out the entire socket for DE's. Gotta get that UV lens protector though.

This is becoming challenging, I figured it gonna cost about 480 dollars to retro with DE's, I can get a deal for moguls for 240 for the dual 250's.
Such a price difference, are the DE really worth that much a difference?
I am also concerned about heat too. DE run that much cooler?

IME, DE's don't run any cooler then SE's of the same wattage. Why not get the SE bulbs and run the HQI ballast, that way you can switch over to DE's if you want.

Well if I do that I might as well just go de all the way. I can only get that price if I go se all the way.

The HQI ballast does cost a bit more but the good news is the pendants are the same and sometimes cheaper then SE pendants.
Is this 120 going to have a cross bar or euro bracing?

They require different types of ballasts if magnetic.

Not really. You can run most if not all of SE bulbs 10K and over on the HQI ballast. The only bulbs that I know of that wont work on the HQI ballast is the Sunburst and the CV's..
