I am setting up another reef tank. A 75 g with dimensions of 48Wx18Hx20D. I was thinking about getting a dual 175 Watt 10K MH setup plus an 18" 96 Watt power quad Coralife PC to supplement. What is everyone's thoughts?

I think its a pretty good setup. The MH will cover about 2 feet of the tank and then the PC will most likely take up the rest. If you have the money go for dual mh 175's.

O.K. thanks for the replies thus far. I definetly will go with the dual setup. I think the setup I am looking at comes with a "mogul" base. Is that common? Is that something I would want? I know these will get opinionated answers, but I would like to know what the majority thinks. Thanks everyone.

The mogul is what you screw the bulb into. I run a dual 175 on my 75 gallon. But i run mostly softies, so it works out well. If you are going for acros then go 250, if not 175 is perfect.

I guess I should have been more clear. I know what it is, but there are different versions of the "thing you screw your bulb into." e.g. double ended halides.

Do you have to be part of a "click" to get some help around here? How can I get started with no responses?

Just discovered something about DE bulbs....they offer no UV protection

I am going with an open top and retro fit. I cannot have DE bulbs. I guess I will go with the mogul base.

You should be fine with dual 175w bulbs. If you have the desire for 250w fine but no need IMO. 175w can light down to 2 feet. I have a site full of MH questions and answers. If interested email me. Peteopp@hotmail.com
