ok also thx for all the help.. lets keep them coming. now i have a question
is this true about the ratings of lights?
10K is whitish and is a great fast grower but not as good in the color catagory for the corall.
20K is very blueish and is great for clams and has great color in the corall
and 15K tries to get the best of both worlds.
so what does everyone preffer as mh?

well, i had 10000 k bulbs and they were yellowish. now i have 20000 k bulbs and they are whiteish. im going to try 15000 k next time

i like u said u would go 15K. i would rather specialize in one part like good growth or nice color than mix um.am i wrong in thinking this?

The lights your looking at there, have 2, 400watt MH'S and 2 power compacts/2 attinics.
They cost around $1300
also the ones in the picture are 10k at the time, im now upgrading to all 20k bulbs they go in about a week. :)
I want more of a white/blue look to my tank...not so much a sun yellow....its not as welcoming as i would like it to be, hence why im changing from 10k to 20k

I think the coralife aqualight pros are great lighting fixtures. I even considered buying one, but then I just went cheaper and got a halide retrofit. The 4' version would cost around $650.

i just bought some new MH's for my tank... they are going under my canopy on my 100 gallon reef....
i dont have pics of the new set up yet since only one has come in im waiting for the other system at the end of this week....
i just got 2-250W DE 20K bulbs with pendants and PFO ballast ran me $650
i plugged the one in and hung it over the tank the color looks awesome!!!!
as of now im not sure myself if i should just do the MH's by themselves or keep some of the PC's too
i was thinking of keeping 2 of the 65W 10K PC's to run with the MH's but im not sure... the color with just the MH's is alreay crazy looking.... ill share some pics later this week when i get them installed...
i did however get my chiller installed and its working great alreayd

hey nm reef or anyone else. on ur DIY project how did u attach your mh reflectors to your hood? does it come with some thing you can screw them in?
also what are ballast exactly. dont they control all the electrisity to the mh. what exactlly is there job i a mh setup.

here is my addition to the show and tell thing.htis is a coralife 24in,2x65 antics and1 150 10k mh.im happy with it.also has moon leds.3 switchs.

Yup. The bulb and socket plugs into the ballast, which is connected to a timer, which plugs into the wall outlet/power strip.
