I have a Ultralight ballast, with 2x 64w PC's, 4 lunar lights, and in the middle, 1x 250w MH light, its a brand new bulb 14k.... for some reason, it does NOT turn on, i have the PC's on, the lunar lights on, but the MH does not turn on. I am not really familiar with MH because this is my first one, but i do know that your suppose to let it fully cool down before re-plugging in, re-turning on, etc.. *reigniting the arc* or whatever it's called, can anyone help me?
*Btw: once in awhile, lately *after a couple days of having it plugged in, 2 days at the most maybe* it will turn on/ flicker for like 2.5 to 3 seconds, and then go out...*

yup, sounds like a bad ballast, if it flickers like that. Did you assemble it yourself? If that's the case, you could have connected the wires incorrectly.
At first I was thinking that you needed to turn on your ballast for your lights to turn on too, but I guess that's not the case. Is it a fixture?

I had this problem when I changed my first double ended bulb. My problem was that I did not have the bulb positioned properly and one end was just arcing. Actually you could see the burn in the metal at that end. I repositioned the bulb carefully to make sure it seated properly and it fired right up.

What i dont understand is, when you position the bulb in, is there a wrong way to put it in? since it fits either left to right, or right to left... if that makes sense...
fits like L

[hr]
R and R

[hr]
L into the ballast.

also, should the side slot things "snap" in to the ballast? or does it just sit firmly, i can sit mine in there, and also press it in deeper

A 250W DE lamp just sort of slides in and sits. It doesn't snap or anything.
If it fits both ways, it'll work in either direction.

hmm i still dont understand what the problem could be then... i tried both ways, sitting it in, pushing it in all the way ... both ways, not quite sure..

I didn't see if you mentioned but... I saw that your bulb is a 250 watt, is your ballast FOR a 250. Maybe the ballast is made for a 150?

well it came as a package kind of thing, i bought the ballast with the bulb already in it, i replaced the bulb thinking htat was the problem, both being same watt...

Sorry to bring this back alive, but i emailed the person i bought it from, and i will be returning it asap, and he will be replacing it... but just a side note, today out of nowhere, it turned on, without me touching it, and stayed on for a good half hour / hour or so, when i touched the wires to the...big black box? *not sure what it is ( the plug that goes frmo ballast to the wall), the adapter im guessing*... the light kept on flickering, so is it possible its not the ballast, and it could be the adapter thing? like i said, im not familiar with MH at all.

it could have a short in the wireing, in any case if the guy is going to replace it then tell him what you know about it, and take the replacement
