hello all.
i was thinking about a way to get a cheap MH fixture.
so i went to home depot, and i saw a 250 watt halogen fixture, double ended and all. so im wondering, if i put a metal halide in there, and not a halogen bulb, would it work.
thanks.

No, unfortunately it won't work.
You can buy a 250w magnetic MH ballast for around $60. A spider reflector will run around $20, and any decent MH bulb will be at least $50. A socket and cord will run another $10. Then you will be good to go as a retro as long as you have a canopy already. Of course many sites have retros already configured with everything you need for even cheaper than the costs I listed.

For a nano I'd get a 70w MH retro for around $100. I'm pretty certain you can hang the reflector. Google: sneggs or DIYreef and check out the retros.
