Would this be too much light/heat for a 30 gallon reef tank w/anenomes?
METAL HALIDE 400 watt MH AQUARIUM LIGHT 14K 14000K
The ballast is rated for 400 watts, I do have fans on my current PC hood that this would be (not the ballast)mounted into.

WOW...i think so
i have 2 -175 MHs above my 75 with 2-96 watt actinics
i think you'll either melting your corals or you'll have to have the lights 2' from the tank and have a chiller
imo i wouldn't ..

Its not the wattage, its the intensity and heat from such a bulb. 400's are like supernova in the heat dept.
I at one time was running 2-150's AND 2-250's over my 65 but I have gotten rid of almost all SPS.
I was doing it goofey, Running alternate 10k and 20k bulbs. Good color and good growth with an even looking tank.
BUT even a single 400w puts out so much heat Its hard to handle on smaller tanks. I personally wouldnt want to try and fight with the heat issues of a single monster. JMO

I have 305 watts over my 35 gallon tank. It does great and the coral love it. Even though it is 175 MH and 65x2 Atinics.

I have 3x250w on my 210 and all my corals are doing great!
I would think along the lines of 175w...how long is your tank?
I definately wouldnt go over 250w!
