Could be a skimmer or powerhead causing them. I had my skimmer running inside my sump and it started causing micro bubbles.

did you do the plumbing for the tank? Do you have ball valves on the return line? Try cutting bavk on the pressure a little. This may stop the problem. It did on mine. Same problems that you stated.

No PHs or simular in the DT that could be drawing in air right ?
Has to be bubbles are getting to the Mag. A prefilter will not stop them. Dont know what else it could be. It does not take many.

i think i found the problem, look at the pics and let me know if you are thinking the same. if so (which im sure you are) what can i do to stop that?? its only the left side as you can see there are A LOT of bubbles pounding outta there. second pic is of the return, there is some bubbles in there too, more than i thought but they may be hard to see with the resized quality of the pic.

Not sure how the baffles are placed but haveing water fall into return will cause bubbles as well. Might have to place another one there that goes near the water line to bring the bubbles up again befor the water goes back down to the pump.

ooh ooh I know this one (thanks to mystics tank), if you put a sponge where the water comes out of the skimmer, it will keep most of those bubbles from entering the tank, they will get trapped in the sponge and disapate.

did you see that huge mass of bubbles comming off my left drain? i think that is the root of my problems, the only reason there is the waterfall in the return bay is because i havnt topped it off, it usually isnt that big of a waterfall. how can i stop all those bubbles comming off my left drain pipe?

oops, I thought they were coming out of your skimmer.
I don't know much about sump set ups. Put that same picture and your question in the DIY forum and the equipment guru "squidd" would be able to answer it. And in the mean time, check back wth this thread to see if anybody knows.

IMO, with the large volume of water your moving, you need really wide bubble baffles and in that second picture you've got a waterfall coming into the return section - that's going to create bubbles just falling in there. Two choices there: either add a raised baffle that makes the water come in from below or silicone in a gradually sloping ramp on the exit of that waterfall.
