I cannot get my remora pro to stop with the microbubbles. I absolutlely hate it...I am running the mag3 and I also dislike the huge prefilter box...does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the bubbles???
Or does someone want to buy a remora pro w/ mag 3 or trade for the little remora and the prefilter box?

I have the same setup and I have a few micro bubles but they seem to come and go depending on if I add any supplement or fresh water. You can try buying an aquaclear 3 sponge and cutting it to fit in the box at the top of the spillway. You could also aim a powerhead at the bottom of the box to break up the bubbles. HTH

That's why I went with the Rio and the Rio prefilter. If you have a prefilter, why would you be getting microbubbles? Any skimmer will produce micros during break-in time. Believe me, this will stop.
Bite the bullet and get the RIO setup. Remember the pic I showed you awhile back? The box was pretty well camoflaged. It is actually a mini refuge at this point. However, if you just can't stand the stuff in your tank, take a look at the Prizm Pro which has its PH outside the tank.

I kinda hid my prefilter box behind some live rock and a xenai colony. It doesn't bother me that much and like Beth said it has become a kinda mini refuge.

Beth,
I really disliked the rio pump I had on my remora pro...after having the skimmer for like 2 weeks the stupid rio pump broke and I had to send it back. Then the people I buy this stuff from insisted on giving me the mag 3 pump. Then after having a ton of bubbles I decided to get the pre-filter box. It was huge...the only difference between the mag3 and rio1400 prefilter boxes is that one is 3" wide and the mag is 4.25" !!! for an 1.5" I really don't think its that big a diff. either way I put the prefilter on dispite its massiveness...
Beth your tank is a 75g right? so its 16wide mine is only 12 wide. Its seems as though the skimmer and prefilter are fabulous, I would have never thought it could take out as much crap as that, but my tank is too small...what a bummer...I think I might try to re-mount the fans inside the canopy and then try to push the skimmer w/ prefilter into the corner!
Either way I guess its not worth selling the whole remora pro and trading it for the regular remora? What would you do? At least I can keep this and upgrade to a larger tank later I guess one day in the far off future...

Mine is a 72 gal, and its a bowfront. So, while I have 18" at the apex of the "bow" most of the tank is less than that, right down to 12" mostly.
As I said, if you didn't want the skimmer in the tank, then go for a prizm pro.
I felt pretty much like you did, but got used to it. It has a good coverage of coraline on it now, and if you are creative you can even attach zoos or maybe get some green star polyps to grow on it.
This is the reason that most people have sumps.
Its a good rock prop! I don't remove the prefilter and rarely clean the pump [for the breakdown reason you mention]. Don't know why RIO pumps are so cheezy.

You can put a maxijet 1200 powerhead on the Remora Pro and then just get the smaller surface skimmer box. The 1200 does 295gph and the mag does 350gph. You will have to change the hose though as well. here are the dimensions for each box...
-AquaC Remora Pro Filter Box for Mag3 Pump 10.34" x 8" x 4.25
-AquaC Remora Filter Box for Maxi-Jet 1200 8.5" x 7.25" x 2.5"
cuts it is a good size box for the 55g.

how well do you think the skimmer will work with an underpowered pump? Will it mess with its effectiveness? I just wonder whether or not it will even work.

I will ask Jason (owner of AquaC) and find out what he thinks. I have seen it done and one of my not so LFS (1hr away), has a 75g display tank using the pro with a 1200. THey have like 6 fish and mushrooms and anemone, and toadstools in it and i think it is the best tank.
But when i looked at the remora and the remora Pro the only difference I found was the size of the unit. But at the same time I was told not to get the Remora and use a mag3 on it. SO I will ask Jason and get his opinions. Post back here when he respones back.
