micro bubbles are not good for the fish' gills and are unsightly. Should be able to adjust your skimmer some way. I'm not sure on that model. Sorry

Sorry I don't have the same skimmer as you, but depending on what you have and how you have it setup, I might be able to help. My skimmer does not use an air stone, its one of those that mixes the water around all different ways (forget the term for it) until microbubbles rise and, well, basically do what a skimmer does. When I started, I had this problem too. Simply adjusted the intake rate, the bubbles disappeared and the garbage that forms in the cup increased greatly. Second, the return flow should go directly into the tank. This may sound obvious but what I mean is if the water is "falling" into the tank like a waterfall, you will get bubles, much like the hang on the back freshwater filters used to do. Neither of these tips may come in handy if your skimmer is not like mine. Again, I don't know because I have a different model than you. Anyways, hope it helps a little at least! Good luck.

Did you purchase the prefilter along with it?? If not, you should!! It will help some, but not totally, I still get microbubbles even with the prefilter box. I had to use a foam at the return area to rid the bubbles. :happyfish

thanks Markus. i completely understand what you're saying. problem 1, how can i adjust my intake? my 1200 do come with a lot of attachment, however, i don't know which one to use, so i'm not using any... 2nd, the return flow doesn't touch the water. so, that doesn't quite fit mine. but that made a lot of sense though. what brand of skimmer to you have?

It's the return area that's causing the microbubbles, by adding on the surface skimmer isn't going to help. You can purchase prefilter box online, I think they're like $20 ea. Some LFS might carry prefilter box to rid bubbles as well, at least mine does.... :happyfish

Sorry for the delay. I have a prizim skimmer by red sea, with the full upgrade kit attached. Since it sounds like you have a totally different setup, I really don't know if I can help you with your problem from here. As far as the intake, there is a very simple valve mid-line on the hard plastic intake u-tube. Turning this to the two extremes causes full flow and no flow, the key to mine is finding the optimum amount of resistance/flow to make the skimmer work properly. Good luck

thanks markus! appreciate this!
fyi, this is what mine looks like. attached pump, rio1200. that thing beside the pump is the "falls" and that is how the skimmer hangs on the tank. maybe i'll try decreasing the intake. maybe it would help. but i'm actually going to put a mag drive 3 on it. contrasting aint it? really don't know what to do next.

could you keep your water level up to where the water doesn't fall into the tank, have it just run it. you get alot of microbubbles from falling water in the tank.my skimmer has a bubble diffuser box. does alot of good. i think you should be able to put some foam, or i would use some filter material where the water goes back into the tank.

I had the same problem. I took some blue filter mat, cut it into peices, folded them up and rubber banded it to the outlet of my skimmer. It did the trick caught all the bubbles and cost me 50 cents.
