The pumps were (2)MD 12. Now (1) MD12 & (1) external SLS 1400 gph.
72g BF, double overflow. 20g ref. Aqua C Remora PS...

As far as microbubbles being bad, I would say that they are. They can get traped and build up in a fish's gills, but the likely hood isn't very high. I've never had a MB problem so I woulnd't know how to help out there, sorry!

is there any sort of restriction on the suction side of the pump? that could cause cavitation around the prop creating micro bubbles. if thats your issue then you would need to relieve that restriction by possibly moving to a larger input pipe or something to that extent.
another thing to check would be that all your joints leading to and from the external pump are thoroughly sealed. a pinhole leak not even big enough to let water out can suck air in when the water rushes by the hole under pressure. kind of like the venturi effect that creates the bubbles in a skimmer. your solution there would be to brush another layer of pvc cement around the joints to make sure.
its also possible there is a malfunction in the pump.

About the restriction on the intake... I dont think so, since the intake side was a 1 inch & I swith it to a 1.5 inch to prevent that, only that in the outflow I had a valve to restrict the outflow so the tank doesnt overfill.
However, a pinhole may be a cause since the pump is so "powerfull" may be causing a sucktion somewhere.
I dont think that the pump may be malfunction... IT IS BRAND NEW!!!
I think that i'll stick with the theory of the "microsucktion"...

if thats the case, give all your joints a quick second brush of pvc cement or slicone to make sure there are no holes.

I did a "layer" coat of PVC cement & a Silicone in top of that, and Im still seeing MB...
I even put a layer/seal of silicone on the NEW pump (that BTW wasN'T leaking)... and anyway... MB...

now what???????????

it could be your skimmer... Whenever I have microbubbles it's because of my skimmer. Generally I just have to turn UP the airflow and it goes away after 15-20 mins, but my skimmer is one of the last things before the powerhead... If you have a fuge then it's probably in a different order than mine. Just a thought.
