Midwest People! Start Your Generators!

There's a bad storm comin'. Get your generators ready. There are 600,000 people without power in Missouri and Oklahoma from the storm that is headed right for us in IL! Check the weather, see if it might affect you. It may do nothing. Can't hurt to be cautious with the little fishies!

hehe,
That is a funny question, ummm thousands if not millions of year depending on your point of view.

It really depends on alot of different factors, stocking levels, I'll bet in this case tempurature plays a roll in it too. Probably the biggest factor. There are alot of different things you can do to limp your tank along like repouring water into your tank with a pitcher. And using small powerheads powered by car batteries ect. But those are just stop gap measures. You really will end up needing a generator to keep them alive for extended periods of time without power.

This happened to me last year, my power went out the whole night. After 3 hours, my fish looked pale and wobbly. The temps went down by two degrees.
You definitely need the heater and some powerheahds to work after that time.

Another reason i'm happy to live in Az. The only problem is in the summer, you can have boiled fish if you dont watch your tank everyday.

I was without power close to 12 hours when Hurricane Gaston hit Charleston a few years back....All fish survived, but they were breathing heavy.
