miracle mud and salt

would it work if i wanted to layer the bottom of my tank with miracle mud and cover it up with salt to get the chemicals and minerals without the ugly appearance??

I am not sure what you mean.
How would you cover it with salt? Salt dissolves in water.
You really only want miracle mud in your refugium, a place where it will not be disturbed.
