Miracle Mud......How's it Going Out There

I have an eco system for each of my tanks (3). My nitrates haven't been above 5 for 2 years. I only change 10 gallons once a month. There are many who wouldn't spend the money on it, but I wouldn't not have it (that was a gramatical masterpiece)

Yea, I really would like to see a study on two tanks with the same bioloads, LR, and managed the same way. One with a DSB one with a little CC and a miracle mud sump or refugium.
I don't see how mud can efficiently remove nitrates. Yes, it is highly anerobic, but I just don't see how the circulation works. I mean, the nitrates have to get into the mud in the first place. Since mud is basically impermeable to water movements...well I just don't see how it can work (not to say that it doesn't though). I would appreciate some education on this.

I HAVE MIRACLE MUD IN MY ECO SYSTEM SUMP ON MY 29G TANK. I LOVE IT! NO SKIMMERS ON ANY OF MY TANKS. CHECK OUT THE PICS UNDER 1 MORE TIME, JUST TO SEE FOR YOURSELF.

Why do I always feel like you are yelling at me Lord of the reef? I too have no skimmers, and have had none for 2 years. I think that, besides the no nitrates, no phosphates, no skimmer, and a comstant ph level (because the light is never shut off), the nicest thing is the infrequent water changes. My fish dealer tells me that I don't even have to change as much as I do (10 gallons a month). I'm not sure how it works, but it does.

Hey Lord,
I gotta ask the question. You seem to know from various comments that people perceive all caps to mean screaming. And you obviously enjoy helping people based on some of your posts. So given these things, if you have the ability to turn off the caps, why not do it and help people feel better when reading your posts?
It is VERY :) unfortunate that caps are considered screaming. Cause caps are a really easy and effective way of making something stand out. But how do people know when you want a particular word or phrase in your message to stand out when your whole message is capped?
Cheers, :)
