I am just setting up my 75 gallon with overflows for a reef system. Would anyone recomend using "Miracle Mud" or plants in the Wet Dry, sump. Any information you have would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am also having trouble getting my live sand to settle. The tank has been cloudy for over two days. Is this normal any recomendations.

Totally normal, once your beneficial bacteria starts to colonate it will attach itself to the sand weighing it down, should clear up within a week.

All I know about the Miracle Mud is that my LFS (who is quick to sell ANYTHING) told me that it's expensive dirt and not worth the money. He recommended that I put my money into live sand. HTH

STW - just so you know and don't freak out: it took my tank about 1 1/2 weeks for the sand to settle. I took people's advice and asked my LFS for some live sand to "seed" my bed and help the sand settle. I don't know if it helped. But after that, anytime I moved anything it would kick up a cloud that would last about a day. During this time I just bought LR from SWF and let the rock "cure". By the time that my sand settled, I only had to wait like another 1 1/2 weeks until my cycle was done. Efficient!

Thanks a lot. The sand has now settled and I am awaiting my live rock from this site, delivery is taking a long time.

It took about a week for SWF to send our live rock, but we did receive it 2nd day mail. We got Fiji LR (25 lbs) - the pieces were GREAT - about 4 LARGE pieces and several small pieces (almost like rubble rock). There was TONS of dieoff (the stuff smelled pretty bad) which was good to get our cycle started without the dead shrimp and after a couple weeks some dusters and other stuff has emerged. There was also TONS of coralline algae! Definetly worth it! Let me know how the pieces turn out.

The peices looked just decent when I put them in. Not to much life, then much of what was there died off like you said. Since then I have had much better success not sure what the algae like coverage is but its purple and looks like its growing. Good stuff.
