miracle mud

I saw an analysis of Miracle Mud about 8 years ago. It was made of silica, organic matter, and sticks just like a handful of dirt from my back yard. Of course, that was 8 years ago. No telling what it contains now.

I'm not saying that a refugium containing garden soil wouldn't work, I'm just replying with what I witnessed.

Not worth the money. A properly stocked/seeded refugium does not need a "miracle" product to work effectively.

I used it. It would be impossible for me to related any positives that happened with the tank, directly to it's use. That is likely how they hook people. Sell a placebo product, where if things go right, they've got a customer for life.

IMO, it has no effect on the tank. Got some, filled my fuge with it, and really did not notice any changes. Very expensive mud, pretty much it.

Agreed, however you should also endever to stock it with a plethora of critters. All the copepods, amphipods, isopods, bristle worms, common fan worms, a few snails and hermits.
I remember the mirical mud as well, didn't sound right to me years ago as well. My 55 gallon filtration tank has about 4 inches of southdown sand, time takes care of the rest.

If that's the goal then I suggest 1/2" of live sand (freshly harvested from the ocean - NOT bagged) and thin pieces of live rock set vertically instead of stacked horizontally.
If you have enough waterflow through something like this then no other filtration is required and the added surface area will grow masses of pods to feed your Dragonet.

well, hmm. i've read that taking sand from the ocean would have alot of pollution n bad things in it , i would be leary of doing that. well anyway i don't have a reef ready tank so i was looking at a cs100 overflow , what do ya think?
