im putting the fish in an acrylic tank, without substrate, i put black paper right under the tank but i can still see a reflection if im standing in front of the tank or looking at it from the side, but if i look at the tank from overhead, its not reflective anymore.
should i add substrate or will this be fine?
just wondering what does a glass hydrometer look like? i think i have one but im not sure

Leave the temp the same as in your display tank. No need for the substrate. What you have should be fine.
Glass hydrometers look like cooking thermometers.

is it the one that floats in the water? the one where the water needs to be absolutely still to be tested? and can be 12 inches in long and some can also check the temp? that one?
thanks beth for helping out, the fish actually look better

Yep, that's it. When you take the reading be sure to read where the water line is horizonal, not where the water kind creaps up on the neck of the glass.

nevermind, i thought i could just add another fish in the QT. I thought sometimes they dont show signs of ich until its too late. Sorry to be confusing, i'll just drop this question.

When is it safe to put the fish back in? 3 weeks after no signs of ich, correct?
When is the water safe to put any fish in? i heard 6 weeks? After the ich dies out in my tank?

Yes, 3 wks in hypo after all signs of ich are gone. If you followed this procedure, you would have taken 2 days to lower salinity to hyposaline conditions, then you would have had the fish in hyposalinity for a very min of 3 wks, then you would take 4-5 days to raise the SG back up to within normal parimeters. Then left the fish in the tank, under normal conditions, for observation for a few more days. If you followed this timeframe, then your display should be safe for the return of fish to it as soon as the fish are done in QT.
