ok here's the scoop this is day 2 missing one of my 2 diamond ( sand ) gobies, the 2 of them sure do make a mess of the sand bed and there are lots of tunnels under my live rock , perhaps one of them got burried alvie which would not surprise me especially the way they pile up the sand, questions is if this fish is dead and burried alive what am i going to see ammonia spike? what should i test for and watch for and how do i correct it water change?? if so how much this is a 72 gall tank
Thanks for all your help,
Mark

If dead and burried he will causea spike, so I would release the hounds...or the crabs. If you got hermits they will eventually find him and do away with his body. But it might not be in time to avoid the spike so be ready for water changes

The ammonia spike depends on the size of the fish vs. the size of the tank/filtration of the tank. If it's a small fish, large tank, you probably won't feel it. If it's vice/versa, large fish in a small tank, then it will be messy.
Did you ever see the two of them fighting or "displaying"? Most of the sand-sifting gobies are pretty territorial, unless of course, a male/female pair is luckily acquired.
