I would like to get some schooling action going and was curious if I were to put in say 3 blue and 4 green chromis will they school together or form two different groups?

Since they are a schooling fish, they will stay together. I love Chromis. They are a happy bunch that will encourage other fish out in the open. I'm not sure why people prefer to keep fish in odd groups, but asthetically I think it looks better.

True but my concern is that since they are slightly different in coloration will they all school together? I know that w/angels if they are similar they are prone to fighting, but very different coloring and they will usualy get along.

I have never tried it but I have heard several people say that 2 different species of chromis will not school together. Greens will not schools with purple or blue. Just what I have heard.

I would say they're semi-schooling fish. Chromises show intraspecific aggression towards one another. The dominant one will pick on the weaker ones. The best way of allowing them to school IMO is to have some semi-aggressive fish in the same tank as a mild threat to Chromis. But, the fish can't be too aggressive or big enough to swallow them. This will encourage their schooling behavior. This is perfectly ok since it occurs in the wild, as well.

Hmmm well since this is a reef tank and fish are very limited that I am putting in unless the tomato clown (which is believable) or the purple tang go after them thats not really an option. I was hoping to hear from someone that has them and their views.. especially if you have some blue and green chromis..
