Mixing first batch of saltwater in aquarium

Ok got the aquarium.
The sump deminsions are 30"x12.5"x12.5" 20g Long. The 55g's overflow is in the middle and has two braces that are 8" apart in the middle. Is that enough room a 250w MH pendant? I asked the guy what pump he had as a return and what was the gph and he had a Mag 5 with a 500gph return rate. Should I get another one of those?
Here's pics:

Ok and the hood is 50"lx13.5"wx11.5" tall which seems kinda short. I'm afraid that since it's shorter it'll overheat in there easily. thoughts?

A mag 5 or a mag 7 would be what I'd use, but before we determine that for sure, what size pipe does the bulkhead accept?

Below the DT it takes an 1.5". Above it won't take the 1.5" so I'm guessing I need something a tad bit smaller, but due to my unexpierence with plumbing and PVC pipes, I'm not sure on the exact size. 1.25"?
Also isn't there something that regulates water going down incase of a power outage to prevent flooding?

Ok I removed the back section of the stand, got the 20g in, and drilled it back in. I moved it to where I wanted the aquarium and put the hood on momentarily. I have a small PC light I'm going to hang somehow from the top of the stand to use for a light for the refegium (plan on getting mud, rubble rock, and cheato in the sump/refegium) and I'm still trying to figure out what lighting I'm going to use for the DT.
Here are some pics of the sump:

Ok I figured out the sump deal I'm pretty sure, besides which pump to get. Now I have a question about the lighting. The middle brace is split into two braces, with an 8" gap, which is exactly in the middle. Is that enough room for a metal halide retrofit kit?
Also with the two glass tops, there is a 2" gap along the back and a 1.5" gap between the tops in the middle. If I get something like firefish, what should I use to cover this area?
