Most max growth size given is not what the home aquarist will encounter. If some one has a 12” hippo in a tank under 120g I would love to see a pic of that big boy
I have a Hippo Tang in a 90g, he started out in a 75g. They do not get that big in the home aquarium as they do in the ocean, it stunts them or something. Even a friend of mine had one for 16 years and it was no bigger than 7 inches.
personally I wouldn't have anymore tangs, he does require lots of swim room. I do however have a little Kole tang to eat algae...how big do they get?

Good point, which leads to the question of "Does marine fish growth depend on the volume of water they are placed in?"
The Kole can reach around 7", but do keep in mind the above comments.

My friend with the 16 yr old Tang believes it is the food. Fish grow big when they eat big, our aquariums are not over fed, which causes us problems, but it stunts the fish.
