Mixing types of horses?

I just heard a voicemail from the manager at my LFS telling me that he just got in some "orange" seahorses. He is the guy who ordered my two erectus from ORA and they are gorgeous and healthy so I will not hesitate buying from him again IF he again ordered from ORA, which I assume he did. I will be going down there in a couple of hours to check these "orange" guys out but I'm assuming he means Reidi? If so, can I put them in my 46 gallon with my two Erectus? I am so excited - I was just thinking how lonely and barron my tank looks with only two horses in it and nothing else.

as long as they are from ora you should be ok. I would QT them for several weeks though. I wouldnt mix species just for the fact of cross breeding though. I would just ask your lfs to order another pair of what you have.

i have a mated pair of erectus and 3 reidi. they seem to get along fine. no cross breeding or anything like that.
the erectus' were wild caught and the others were CB

Yes it can be done, but you taka a great chance of passing on pathigins to your orig horses.

People like pure animals in this hobby... these aren't junkyard dogs.. they're meant to be "nice to look at" display animals. Same goes for poison dart frogs.. the hybrid offspring typically come out looking like crap so thats another reason.

one of the main things with cross breeding is each species is just a little differant. Their fry require differant foods at differant stages of thier development and would be much harder to raise.
