if tank is empty i dont see how it could hurt anything. that s what i do when cycling a new tank. it will be a little cloudy but it will settle add powerhead to circulate.
If the tank is new and without anything live in it yet, yes you can. This is the ONE AND ONLY time you can mix salt directly into a tank. From here on out, it gets mixed in a seperate containter.
For me, I would always mix in a container. THere could be undisolved solids left behind and who knows how long it would take to disolve in your tank. Your SG readings could be off longer if mixed in a tank..
