thank you!
i did not paint the bottom, i figured it would just be covered with sand anyway. ill be running a 20G long as the sump. im actually buying a table saw this weekend to cut the acrylic for the baffles.
if anyone needs a barely used 10" table saw in the upcoming weeks let me know... lol

while im still waiting for a few things to show up i decided to install the GFCI outlet behind the tank. i picked up a nifty one with a cool green light that shows its functioning properly. its really no big deal since i just swaped out an older grounded outlet for it. sorry to disappoint, no demolished walls in this post.
for anyone who doesn't know: a GFCI is a ground fault circuit interrupter. it will cut power to the outlet if there is a ground fault on the line, like for instance dropping your lights into the tank. its kind of a mundane detail but a 100% necessity when using power around water. they're pretty easy to install, but if you don't know anything about electrical call an electrician. you will most likely need to determine between load and line wires.
Halfway through installing before i remembered to take a picture.

finished product... i still have to repaint around the outlet. the last home owner painted over the wall plates so the paint chipped while i was removing it.

when i get a chance ill be installing a type CB/GFCI right into the circuit breaker box witch also responds to short circuits and overloads. for a total of $20 between the two you cant be too safe or have too much redundancy.
