Im not using the bio balls in that chamber. Will I be able to put the biocube skimmer there? What can I do. I know that you can change it into a fuge but dont know how. What other mods are good?
Thanks

I think a skimmer is a good idea, but I'd do it along with a fuge. To turn it into a fuge it's quite simple, all you do is put a layer of mud or sand (deep sandbed) at the bottom and then put some cheato on top of that. The water pump/sump should provide the water flow and just get some cheap fluorescent lights or LED's for lighting the fuge.

You can get a knife or something and you can scrap off the paint carefully off of the back of the biocube for the middle chamber, then you can just put a light back there for the micro algae. I don't think you really need a skimmer. Just do weekly water changes and your good. 1 gallon of water a week is about 15% water change. Here is a picture I drew of the mods I made.

I think I will do just about your mod but with a little more. Only one more question. The flow on that isnt really good. Should I upgrade to a mini jet 606 and then use the stock as a powerhead or just upgrade and save the stock pump.

I'd get a better pump, but I guess a powerhead would work. I'd defenitly get it more flow though.

What I am saying is that I am getting the 606 no matter what. I just wanted to know if the stock pump should be used as a powerhead or just as a backup incase the 606 dies.

I just thought of an Idea. If I took a piece of acrylic and put it blocking the top overflowon the other side so its not as noticeable. and left only a little bit would it create a surface skimmer?

I am a little confused at what you said, but from my understanding the answer is no. A surface skimmer is where the surface of the water flows. With the cartridge in the way, the surface stands still.

You don't need to add a surface skimmer. Its already built in the oceanic biocubes. I never did replace the oceanic stock pump in by biocube. I've already had it for 1 year and 3 months with no problems and its still workin good.

yeah, that wouldnt be a surface skimmer. the surface skimmer that you can get for free in a biocube is by taking out the cartridge, and allowing the surface to go to the water fall unobstructed. in your diagram, it would go thru the slots, but then be stopped by the cartridge on the other side. That acrylic would also restrict flow by a lot.

it is built in, but you have to remove the cartridge that came with the tank. The cartridge with the carbon in it.
