Diatom alage comes from newly established tanks, it usualy goes away, and sponges just add to your biological filtration, nothing realy to worry about right now.

sponges are a natural filter and there are many different species in the aquarium some you will see others you wont. There really isnt a reason to worry about them unless they become envasive but most wont. They are filter feeders that push water in and out of there structure to catch food.
I wouldnt worry about them though,

sorry I thought you were asking about the sponges.
the diatoms will pass in time as long as you arent adding what they need to reproduce.
What diatoms are is a skeleton structures of an crustacean that repoduce rapily in a new tank. useing RO or RO/DI water will help keep them from coming back. But I wouldnt really worry about them either. if its the look your worried about then just blow them off the rocks and sand they will disapate. a clean up drew of hermits and some snails will eat it but youll need to plan the vlean up crew for your future plans since some are not compatabiale with reef setups.

i kind of was asking about sponges. you dont recomend them? and do you think that the diatoms are from the frozen brine and mysis shrimp they arent eating? i have a puffer and humu so i cant really have much of a clean up crew. i have a hermit, and starfish and snail(they both never leave the glass. can you recomend any other things to clean up? i also have a lawnmower blenny

sponges are going to grow in the tank no matter what I dont recomend going and purchasing sponges they usually dont last long with out the right conditions.
as far as they diatoms they will pass in the tank as long as you arent adding what they need in the tank. can you blow it off the rocks and sand or is it stuck to them.

it looks like its stuck to them. and for some reason i feel like my puffer is always hanging out just sitting on mostly the LR with the diatoms on it. is this bad for him? or is this like some kind of algea? and what exactly adds to it?
