I would like to know if it is possible to place mollies into saltwater aquariums??
If so, which ones are best for this and how do you go about acclimatizing them to the salinity of 1.025??

Yes it is possible.
Black mollies are the best, but I think they can all be acclimated to saltwater.
You will have to acclimate them Very slowly; someone else might know more information about acclimating them.
You can google saltwater mollies, and see how other people have done it.

If you search, you will also see the number of people who REGRET EVER DOING IT

I don't recommend it, personally, and if you do, ONLY use males or you will regret it.

Thanks for the reply. I was more curious about it than doing it. I have read about folks doing this. I know mollies do better in a bit of salt but don't know about full salt.
Yes they do breed like rabbits. I use to breed guppies and babies oh my lord. In my freshwater tank I only buy males now, they are more beautiful and I don't have to tend with the unwanted fry either.

Mollies are brackish water fish, they're happy in either. I've put my mollies from salt to fresh just by netting an putting into the other tank.

They can certainly tolerate it. There is not question. But I would never do it because they are like rabbits and there are quite a few threads here asking how to get rid of them. With the limited space in a SW tank, I would never do it or suggest it, personally.

very good point, however they do make tasty treats for bigger aggressive fish.

Dear hobbyist, when I first began my salt water aquarium, I began with mollies. I acclimated them slowly ,and they were fine. Mollies are live bearers which produce young regularly .I used golden sail fin mollies, and I enjoyed their company. When the young were born , some were eaten by larger fish ,and some survived .After my cycle was complete ,I gave the mollies away .

Yes you can put mollies in SW. Mollies will live in fresh, brackish or salt water. When I first started I took two mollies out of my fresh water tank, drip acclimated them, and put them in my SW tank. They did fine. I took two more mollies and did not acclimate them, and they did fine. I eneded up with 6 mollies in my tank for about a month and I took them out once I started buying SW fish. And when I took them out I didn't acclimate them back to freshwater, and they are still alive to this day.

Thought I would bring this posting back up. Thought I would give this a try. I bought a male sailfin platinum mollie last week. After acclimitizing him for a long time I am very surprised to say that he is doing very well. Loves to nibble away at the algae in the tank, swims with the ever so skitish firefish the odd time. The yellow watchman is out and about more too. So it seems to be a positive thing here.
I also have seen more vibrancy, and all around better fish in the saltwater. Mollies tend not live very long in FW I have found but the saltwater is just like a boost of energy for them.
I don't know if "all" types of mollies would do well in SW but I have read numerous postings on the internet about the the sailfins doing very well in SW.
No I don't plan on getting anymore or any females. Don't want the hassle of little ones, been there and done that in FW.
Just thought I would post my experience thus far.

I am going to have a pair of mollies in my 10 gal feeder tank and make it saltwater that way my larger fish can have a healthy free snack.

I have a buddy that loves black mollies. Loves damsels the best, but at $6 a pop, hangs out with mollies more often.

fl, what kind of fish is that?
frogfish. I have been feeding it damsels but they are getting expensive so I took to acclimating black mollies and it woofs them down. Now I have a blue damsel lurking around, but it will eventually lure it to its doom.

Does anyone know if mollies would be compatible with false percs and/or royal grammas?
i tried them in my tank i have true percs, yellow tangs, and a lionfish. the lionfish scarfed downt the babies and none of the fish messed with the older ones.

I don't know if all the mollies adapt well to full salt. But the sailfins sure do. I have a very soft heart for all fish and would not put a pair in the tank as they multiply like rabbits and I just cannot watch other fish eat them. So this is why I just have the one male. He is beautiful.
For the short time I have had this molly in my tank I can say they are great at eating all algae. This guy goes constantly at the glass, live rock etc. Does a great job too.
Would they get along with perc clowns ones asks I don't know that as I have a very shy firefish that is coming out more and more since the molly introduction but, I say but I have a very mean aggressive Yellow Watchman Goby whom does not like anything in his tank. The molly is fine as he moves fast, but I do think now he was the one that killed my perc a while ago.
I think the Molly would be fine with the clowns but I don't know for sure.

Please clarify, do you suspect the goby killed the perc, or the mollie killed the perc?
