I set up a timer for my 25 gal. tank. I have it scheduled to run for 12 hours then shut off. This morning my water looks VERY green! no algae on the tank walls, but the water looks green and cloudy...
Recently I changed to a rotating powerhead.
I am running a Power Compact 65W smartlamp.. I've also added additional light (2) - 11W 120V mini flourescents. (to brighten things up)
Is this too much light? Is 12 hours too long? What is the best way to get rid of the green?

Perhaps the spectrum on those 11w lights is causing the problem? Just an idea...
Was algae a problem prior to adding those lights?

When I first got the 65W lights I left them too long and grew a ton of algae on the sides of the tank. That was easy enough to remove and my water stayed clear. This time the algae appears to be in the water and is making it very cloudy.

With the lighting the size it is..I would suspect you have a nutrient problem in your tank...the green water is a massive algae bloom. It should subside in time, but there are nutrients somewhere in your system. What kind of water do you use? How often do you change it?

I do a 20% water change each month, replacing water with RO water. Mixing the Sea water myself.
Running a Prizm Protein skimmer. Currently using an aqua pure water purifying filter in the Prizm.
Thoughts?
