Moon Coral

I just bought a piece of coral at a LFS, that said it was moon coral. The guy, who is usually very knowledgeable, told me the coral required medium-high lighting. When I told him I had a 55 with 216W of T-5, he said it would be fine. It looked sort of like some of the types of brain coral, and I asked him, and he said it was much easier than brain coral. Well, I just looked on this sight and found a very similar type of coral labeled brain-moon coral. Has anyone heard of this type and if so, what are the chances it will make it in my tank. It is currently sitting at the highest point in my tank.

I think you'll be okay. My lfs has one in their "not for sale" tanks under pc lights. It looks good.

Thanks, I was really hoping it would be OK, this thing really glows green and purple when my actinics come on.

I've got some Moon coral in my tank; I have 2x 250w MH but I've only seen the polyps come out durring the night time (Thought that was why it was called Moon coral lol) Still new and learning. I would think it should be fine under them... I would post a picture but all the ones I take never turn out, all blurry.

Another species that seems to often dumped or mixed into one large group (favia). At any respect your lighting should be fine. Good flow and water quality will also help as any coral as you know. also The moon coral can have long sweeper like tenacles that come out at night, so make sure it's not placed near delicate species. Hope this might help?

Unless your lights are significantly less bright than the LFS, I would suggest acclimating the coral to your lights on the bottom of y our tank, not the top. HOWEVER< if the LFS has got MH and you are using flourescants, it should be fine. Otherwise, pretty much all faviids respond, grow, adn are adaptable to the same conditions. medium light, low to medium flow, and feedings once a week or so. They are hardy, adn you should have no problems keeping it. POST A PIC if you can, and give as much detail as possible about your setup. That will help with all the exact answers toyour question.
