moonlites

Should I leave the moonlites on all night? My fixture has 3 moonlites built in and I usually leave them on all day since I don't have a timer on the moonlites. So, everytime my main lights go off the moonlites shine through. I only have a timer on both 92 watt bulbs. Moonlites are only 1 watt each or should I put them on a timer to give my fish complete darkness?

All night is ok so I hear. Some people try and make them dim with a controller so Its just like the moon.

Far as I know... The lights that moonlights use are LEDs. LEDs last for years... Not just years but decades. If you look at most stop lights and buses (not head lights) the lights they use are a bunch of LEDs. They cost a lot more but last forever. I would not trip about the bulbs going out unless they are actuall bulbs with a filiment.
Anyone else have any experence with moonlights?

I picked up the Custom SeaLife PC w/built in moonlights a couple of weeks ago... There is no way to turn those suckers off without pulling the plug. Both of the PCs have a switch, I figure if it was bad for them to be on all the time then the manufacturer would have included a switch for them as well...
They are suppose to simulate a full moon right? It isnt a full moon every night, so putting them on a timer wouldn't seem to be that far-fetched an idea... but they do keep me from banging my drunk shins into the coffee table at night :D

I agree with JoeMack moonlights from CustomSeaLife are LEDs and they last for ever, I have a dual 65w PC from CSL with two moomlights and I live them on all the time. Make sure that there is water movement at the very top, just to give a more realistic look inside the tank when only the moonlights are on.

I guess I'll just leave them onn. It does look very cool though with the water movement.

Mine is on all the time, day and night, of course until I get a timer on it. Then it's gonna be off all day and then come on as soon as it starts getting dark here. I have a timer on my pcs that lets you select what time you want what to come on what day, and you can vary the timer cycle so it doesn't come on at the same time every day.
