yo... you people need to chill out... All my fish are fine. I just got a scooter blenny and a diamond goby and another skunk shrimp, a gorgonian, and another coral. All my fish are fine. Everything you people know is a conspiracy from the government and you have all been victimized. I was at a LFS and they had 8 yellow tangs in a 2 foot wide by 4 feet tall. And 3 tanks with the same as above right next to it. And the tangs were in a Not for sale tank. So they yellow tangs dont fight each other and they dont need a 6 foot long tank. The place where it is at is called "House of Fins" and is one of the best fish stores in the country. They get thousands of fish in per week and are sold out in 6 days. They have loads of fish in the same tank that you people say "dont mix". My four LFS say 1 fish per 5 gallons. These LFS are phenomenal. One of them is actually owned by the same people of House of Fins. These people aree all pros and they definitely know what they are doing. IMO you people are just blind sided by all thius false knowledge.

The first thing you need to realize is that everyone here is trying to HELP you from their own experience, and the years of experience gathered by numerous peers. Your LFS is only going to try and make money off of you so you can't trust what they say. Also, seeing tangs in a small tank that says "Not For Sale" likely means you saw them doing some QT, which you should always do for tangs since they're more susceptible to ich than many other fish in the hobby. Most LFS will keep fish in a tank that's too small for them to live in long term only because they sell them quickly, therefore they don't need to invest in the large spaces that many of the fish will require long term. Just because the LFS uses X gallon tank for tangs doesn't mean you should. Having loads of fish that "don't mix" in a tank also is no indicator of something you could be doing because, again, they're planning on selling those fish quickly and it's not for a long term.
At any rate, if you don't heed the advice you've been given, when you have a problem (and at this rate, it's not "if" you'll have a problem, but "when"), they may not want to help you. Again, I'm also trying to help you, but you obviously don't want it so I will not help any further. Good luck, and when your fish start dying I will be sorry for them.

Actually it didnt say not for sale. It was in the second building across the street which is the plce where you can buy tank and look at fish and rockwork for ideas. It is not Qt. The QT tanks are where you can buy the fish. They have been in that tank for a real long time.

So that's what? 11 fish in a 58 gallon tank? If your "logic" of one fish per five gallons of water is "correct," then that should be 55 gallons, right? However, take away water mass because of the LR, LS and numerous corals you have, and it's definitely under 50. You're overstocked by your own logic.

This coming from a boy who listens to the employees at the LFS who "really do know everything."

As someone has already pointed out, they over-crowd their tanks because they know they will sell those fish quickly. I went to a sale at my LFS and they had four Yellow Tangs in a 55 gallon, but all were gone within an hour and a half.

This should tell you something: They sell their stock quickly, so they don't have to keep them in appropriate sized tanks...

Read above.

They're trying to make a sale. I have two LFS that won't sell me something if they know I don't have the capacity. Those are the kind of LFS' I trust.

Not if they allowed you to put eleven fish in a 58 gallon tank; especially fish that belong in a much larger tank.

I think you may have misunderstood what they were trying to say. The general saying when it comes to fish per gallon, which is usually not accurate anyways, is:
For small to medium fish, the rule is 2" of fish for every 10 gallons.
For medium to large bodied fish, the rule is 1" of fish for every 10 gallons.
this refers to the full grown size of the fish. For instance the hippo tang would be considered an 8-12 inch fish. Based on what you have in the tank, you have overshot this number a while back. Good luck.
P.S. I have a 150 gallon, and I intend on housing a powder blue tang, a purple tang, 2 clowns, a royal gramma, and a gobie. Thats the full fish list.

I hate to say it, but until his tank crashes, there will be no lesson learned. it is too bad, cause daddy will have the money to go buy more.

look this kid has repeadedly posted threads about how awesome all his fish are and then a week lated you see "help me my fish are dying" threads. he refuses to take anyones advice, and as long as his daddy keeps buying more fish, he doesnt seem to care what dies.
i agree, to some extent, that everyone should be able to do their own thing and experiment, but if someone was continuously starving puppies and making them live in shoeboxes and trashbags, would you still tell everyone to "let him do what he wants"?

puppies and fish are two totally diffrent things man. i mean in all honesty there just fish. now i do c where u guys are getting mad at him and yes his tank is over stocked but comon u guys are acting a litttle bit to the extreme. n e ways LAXplaya all they are trying to say is that you are over stocking your tank way way to much and the solution is to just stop buying fish and start buying corals thats all.

He has 13 fish in the tank now, he just added a goby and scooter fish. I wonder if his wonderful lfs told him scooters need pods to survive since they know everything, why didn't they know that????
Of course they probably knew it, but to make a sale, these "experts" sold him one anyway

I think we should all just keep our comments to ourselves from now on, cause i think this kid enjoys getting unfaverable comments or he would just stop posting, he knows EXACTLY what we are going to say when he posts about getting another fish, so he must get a kick out of it, I say we just ignore him. If he is buying fish to prove us wrong, its not fair to the fish he will end up killing. Maybe he will stop if he doesn't get a reaction from us any more
And afew fish might not become victims. Just a thought.

Fish have feelings to, Of course puppies are different, but no need to let any living, breathing animal suffer because of selfish ignorance is there?

just let him experience a wipe out...
best lessons in life are learned through experience afterall.
and if anything, maybe having a full tank wipeout will open his father's eyes and restrict his loose quick spending.

it kind of ironic that you said my dad will open his eyes... he has macular degeneration of the retna and is legally blind in his right eye. Kind of ironic

At least i do not kill my pets on purpose
I would be the first to stand behind you and say you made a newbie mistake IF you were trying to right a wrong, but no, you just are acting like a spoiled brat out for self gratification, look at me, i can do what i want and have a pretty tank, none of you can do 13 fish in a tank and get away with it
Or else you just like controversey. Oh let me see what i can put in my tank to rile these people up.
nuff said, i am done with you, could care less what you think
