Everything you people know is a conspiracy from the government and you have all been victimized. I was at a LFS and they had 8 yellow tangs in a 2 foot wide by 4 feet tall. And 3 tanks with the same as above right next to it. And the tangs were in a Not for sale tank. So they yellow tangs dont fight each other and they dont need a 6 foot long tank. The place where it is at is called "House of Fins" and is one of the best fish stores in the country. They get thousands of fish in per week and are sold out in 6 days. They have loads of fish in the same tank that you people say "dont mix". My four LFS say 1 fish per 5 gallons. These LFS are phenomenal. One of them is actually owned by the same people of House of Fins. These people aree all pros and they definitely know what they are doing. IMO you people are just blind sided by all thius false knowledge.
The first thing you need to realize is that everyone here is trying to HELP you from their own experience, and the years of experience gathered by numerous peers. Your LFS is only going to try and make money off of you so you can't trust what they say. Also, seeing tangs in a small tank that says "Not For Sale" likely means you saw them doing some QT, which you should always do for tangs since they're more susceptible to ich than many other fish in the hobby. Most LFS will keep fish in a tank that's too small for them to live in long term only because they sell them quickly, therefore they don't need to invest in the large spaces that many of the fish will require long term. Just because the LFS uses X gallon tank for tangs doesn't mean you should. Having loads of fish that "don't mix" in a tank also is no indicator of something you could be doing because, again, they're planning on selling those fish quickly and it's not for a long term.
At any rate, if you don't heed the advice you've been given, when you have a problem (and at this rate, it's not "if" you'll have a problem, but "when"), they may not want to help you. Again, I'm also trying to help you, but you obviously don't want it so I will not help any further. Good luck, and when your fish start dying I will be sorry for them.
