more sand questions...

Ok in my tank now I've got about 2" of substrate at the bottom that consists of (lowest to highest):
a very thin layer of a crushed coral type of substrate
a bit of regular sand from the LFS
a top layer of a bag of live sand (large grade pieces)
I really don't know much about sand, but I am going to buy some finer grade live sand because im not really happy with what I have in there and my question is should I add the new live sand on top? should I take all my other sand out and put just the live sand in?
Like I said I don't know much about sand or depths and what is good or bad so any help is appreciated.

it not the best idea to mix sand and cc
the cc even though its at the bottom will find its way to the top
and being mixed with the sand makes it hard to vaccum you end up sucking out the sand
your best bet is to figure out which one you want cc or sand and just do that
if it was my tank i would take out all the substrate and just put in sand
also the depth of the sand is important
do some research on deep sand beds and shallow sand beds and you will find out the differences between the two
