more than 2 clowns per tank?

im no expert, but i have 7 in my 265, and two of them are very close because she has about 500 eggs every 12 days. And yes i have raised them. I also have 30 of them living in a 39 gal.

the 7 in the 265 ....how long??? and i'm assuming 2 have paired up......the 30 are juvi's??

It is highly not recommended to house more than 2 clownfish to a tank ! More than 2 in a tank will guarantee a DOMINANT PAIR will kill all other clowns.
To thejeweler : 30 juvis in a 39G is only asking for trouble. plus your tank is way overstocked for 30 fishes ! Granted a 200 plus tank is quite a large tank. But even that may cause problems ... eventually.
In closing : no more than 2 clownfish in a 120G tank.

Lets see here about 5 years ago i decided to try to breed some clowns.I bought a book called CLOWNFISHES by JoyceWilkerson, I had a small 39 gal and i bought 5 ocellaris from different places. The tank had a home made protien skimer and not much else besides some live rock. About a year later i started to get some eggs. Thats the easy part, doing the greenwater and rotifers and all the other work that goes with raiseing them.My first batch after they were big enough, I gave severeal away to other fish nerds like me, I also kept 10 for my 265 reef. I lost 3 some where along the line ( One was very small he was my favorite. My familiy and i called him peanut.) Any way a yaer or so passed and i noticed two of them getting very close( anf i forgot about all the work that was needed to raise them) so i did and i think i got 50 or so and just keep them in the 39 gal. I have 30 of them in the tank. The thank has lots of culpra and lots of mushroms and yes there only a yaer or so old but very happy.

thats pretty dang cool! have u ever thought of selling to lfs for profit? ur the 5th person i kno to mention that book. i may be planning to buy it anytime soon.
and about the food, instead of that couldnt u have used prepared foods like frozen rofiers, bio plankton, phytoplex from kent, and maybe cylpeeze?

the book say that the small clowns will not eat them if there not living, never tried though. My clowns she has new eggs every 12 14 days I guess i could sell them but really never thought about it. Lot of work but lot of fun as well. P.S. the book is worth it I have read it from cover to cover several times.

Okay. Nomateer what anyone else says the answer is no. Do not even think about attempting to think about it. Many people have ahd bad experiances. If you hear success stories there are 10x more horrible death stories.... but no one tellls those. Short answer ABSOLUTLY NOT! I am not flaming you I am just getting this possiblility off the table.

there's a chance you can do it, we just dont recommended it. it's more than likely they will start fighting. and you will end up losting one or the weaker pair. if you decide to give them a try. let the weaker clown in your tank first, wait til they settled down before you introduce another pair.i have 2 pairs(Percula and Black Saddleback) in my tank now, so far so good. there are aggressions between 2 female, but i dont see any damage yet. i have no anemone, not planning puting one in. usually that's how the war started. also keep in mind i have second tank that if they do going on war i have place for one pair to fall back to. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

i dunno but at the my LFS they have like 100 clowns in a 200gal. and they all seem fine. i think its sortof a toss up

That's the whole point you're not getting ! You have just stated it was at your LFS that have that many in his 200G tank. Of course he has that many ! He's selling them (all juveniles) for his profit !
