and wanted to share a close up shot of one polyp from my growing colony of clove polyps. I was playin' with the new camera yesterday tryin' to figure out how to take pics in macro mode. Several shots came out real good...I'll post some of them later today on my site. This one below though really caught my attention. Hope ya like it...

LMAO...a request...kewl...I can do that! I just shot this pic yesterday(I just loaded it on my website). It shows my cream colored alveopora with some new growth goin' on. The uderside of the piece has sprouted 3-4 new little heads.

Very nice, NM Reef! You've really improved quite a bit with your photography skills! The picture of the alveopora is beautiful!
Out of curiousity, How have you been doing your Macro shots? One thing I will sometimes do when the coral/fish is far away (thus why you usually can't get good macro shots with something 16+ inches away), is I usually make the picture as large as I can (2560x1920). When you open it up onto your computer, you usually get an image way too large to fit on your screen. You then can scroll down to the part of the image you want, cut it out, and paste it into an empty file. You usually then end out with something like this (the coral was 16" from where the camera was located. Also, please excuse the red bugs :( )

Graham...thats close to what I do....full resolution pics then crop them down to the bit I want. Will the image quality improve using your method? Will I get better or worse crops if I use digital zoom? The settings for the above pics are listed up there. Right now I am tryin' to learn how to take pics so that I can get decent macro shots of the assorted stuff in my system. Any and all help improving my shots is appreciated.
Sorry lesa...I've never seen a drool icon...but if I find one you're welcome to it...stuff around here makes me drool too. Like that subtle lil pic Graham posted!!!!

I would try Auto Focus for Macro, that way you will get a chance to focus on an exact spot of a coral. Quick Tip: Keep the camera in the same position and take around 3-6 pictures of the coral, each time slowely ajusting the focus by .001 This will give you a good chance to get clearer photos.
Try not to use Zoom, as it will affect the quality of the picture. If you have to use Zoom, you could use it, but I don't recommend it when trying to get extremely sharp images (as most of the time the quality goes down the more you zoom).
We really need a drooling icon

Go to http://www.egri.co.uk/smileys.html and look around for an emoticon "Drooling."
Take Care,
