OK, so I will be moving from Missouri back to Florida. I now have a 125 stocked with a dozen damsels a sfe a foxface and a scopus tang. In my 75 gal. I have two fire gobies 2 cleaner shrimp and three peppermint shrimp and a blue spotted puffer. with tons of coral. mostly zoos and shrooms but I have devils hand elegance torch as well.
I am wanting to keep everything. I was thinking of buying about 10, 50 gallon trash cans filling them with the same water. I was going to place all the rock into the cans evenly and the coral on top and disperse the fish evenly as well as the coral.
I do not know if they will make it as we will stop once to spend the night then arrive at our new place have to setup everything then replace them all back into the tanks. It will take me a day to setup the tanks solo I am sure with the plumbing and setup. Do you all think it is possible and or should I just sell all the livestock keep the water and rock?
any help would be greatly appreciated. I will not be moving for probably a month to two months but want to get a jump if I should sell the stuff and or start preparing them all for a 3 day transfer in trash cans.

If you can keep the coral halfway warm it should be fine. The fish however, I just dont see them making the trip, espessialy if your stopping somewere. How about Overnighting them to yourself? With heat packs and in styrofoam coolers? That is how there shipped from retailers to you isnt it? Just some food for thought.

The fish... I spoke to my friend who is the manager planet reef in saint louis. Ryan said he would hold some of my stuff for me such as the elegance coral devils hand, Torch etc some of the stuff that is not the most stable and mail it to me when I get there.
The fish.. How on earth do you catch 12 damsels a foxfaxe and a scopus tang plus a snf in a 125 full of rock work....
Then I have two fire gobies that scream they move so fast that will be like trying to catch the tasmanian devil... The puffer and the butterfly I can hand catch they dont mind me at all but the others sheeeeeeesh..
With that power muhboby thingy I think I might be ok. I will stop at a hotel and run a extension cord from thew room to my lights and run them over the trash cans while we sleep sound good ? The power converter I will use to run two koralia a 3 and a 4 and everytime I stop for gas I can swap them into another can to make it where everything is getting circulation for awhile. I also thought about tossing a ¼ pound of carbon into a bag in the cans to help out as well.
What do you all think how can I refine upon it ?

Go to your out door store and buy a livewell. And stick your fish in their. I'd catch your damsels when you tear the tank down... However if you have someone willing to pack and mail them to you, you've might as well.

I would say no to the trachcans, thats an added 5000 lbs to the car. I would think that would make the trip dangerous for the driver.

If I were you I'd sell the livestock, keep the rock and rebuild your tanks at the destination. Only unless you have some rare fish, I would not risk trying to do the trip with them. You can always buy new fish at destination. Good LR is always harder to come by, same goes for nice coral colonies.
Just my $0.02 worth.

i agree.... i drive a truck for a livin (pleaze dont look at me that way
) and what you're proposing wouldnt be fun in a big truck (semi). toss the fish in a 55 gal can, hold em at the lfs and mail em to ya after you move all the other stuff. lot easier

Another option would be take the tanks apart, and get your LFS to pack them and just take em with you. They should make it a couple days. And just set up a QT till the big tank is up and running.

I also have my cdl. The trash cans will be around 150 gallons of water with the lr and coral in them. The livestock as far as fish will be sold probably. The trucks used will be two of the large penski trucks not semis. I will keep them at the back of the truck to be able to turn the lights on at night via extension cord.
The weight of the water will be 1200 pounds give or take a few gallons.
I bought a inverter from mr. x off here so it should run my koralia 3,4 thru the whole trip. the heaters I am lookin for are battery powered..

Where in FL are you headed? Maybe there are locals that can help you.

Not for sure yet.
Tampa with a gov agency with cool black suburbans
or miami, daytona, jacksonville
with the vets administration. either way it is a bump up in her Gov position and usually would take ten more years for this move but they seem to like her a lot.
She is acting deputy chief here at Fort Leonard wood and they wanted her to take over but this advance is too good to pass up.
