I just bought a 75 gallon set up that was approx 20-30 miles away. This is what we did. Well, I paid the guy $75 to bring it and set it up for me, best $75 I have spent in ages.
He took out the water and put the water into 2 garbage cans with tight fitting lids. The LR went into a couple 5 gallon buckets with some water. The LS went into another couple 5 gallon buckets. The fish went into their own 5 gallon bucket and rode up front in the cab of the truck. I think it took 2 trash cans and 5 buckets to move everything, but it was pretty straightforward. I would have preferred they leave the LS in the tank but perhaps it was too heavy that way - he said there was 300 lbs (???) in there.
Edited to add: My fish stayed in the bucket for 24 hours before I put them into the cloudy tank. It took approx 3 days for the tank to settle and clear.
Hope this helps somewhat!

I have moved my reef 2 times over the last 6 years 1000+ miles each way with no issues. Stuff is amazing hardy if the temp changes gradually and you are sorta carefull when you move the rock and corals. just get the biggest storage totes you can carry and move the stuff. As you are filling the totes with water, start moving the rock and corals so the stuff is submerged most of the time. It is good to have about a 50% water change but not necessary. I would wash a couple socks with no soap a few times and then run the water through the socks from the tank to the totes to get any crap that stiired up from moving stuff. If you have a deep sand bed then I would take out the sand bed last and add it back in slowly over a week or so.

If you're looking for something to put rocks and whatnot in, go to your LFS and ask if they can give you any of the styrofoam boxes they get stuff shipped to them in, and maybe some plastic bags for your fish if you want to try and bag them up. Good luck.
