well i am moving a 30 g tank from the upstairs to the downstairs and my plan was to get a 30g bucket/tub and put all the water and lr in there. then move the tank and then just refill it. would that work? any suggestions would be helpfull. would i have to re cycle the tank or would it be fine to put fish in?

As long as you are using the same water , rock , and filtration you will be good to go . Just make sure to keep the rock in your water when moving the tank , you don`t want any die off .

Go to your LFS and see if you can have a couple of the styrofoam boxes fish get shipped to them in. Wrap the rock in wet newspaper just like they do at the store, and move in the box. Maybe use a couple of large, clean, plastic trash bins for moving the water.

That all depends on how long it actually takes to make the move. He has to pull the rocks out, pull the fish out, drain the tank, unhook all the equipment, move the tank and everything else downstairs, set the tank back up, fill it, then put the rocks and fish back in. So it may very well be... necessary.

IMO I would get two 15 gallon tubs and split the water and LR in half. Plus, put a PH in each tub and if you have one heater then chose which tub to put it in. Take both tubs down stairs and plug in the PH and heater(s). Take your time with the opther equipment and tank. Try not to cause to much sand stir up and put it back together down stairs.
